Exclusive: Vancouver constable Kal Dosanjh quit the Kids Play board more than a year before he was charged

Official records for the Kids Play Youth Foundation show that its founder, Vancouver Police officer Kal Dosanjh, ceased to be a director more than a year ago.

Dosanjh was charged Sept. 3 with fraud over $5,000, theft over $5,000 and breach of trust between 2017 and 2025. The Surrey resident denies the allegations that he stole from real estate investors and his charity, which aims to keep children and youth out of gangs.

On June 1, 2025, Dosanjh and Manmeet Dhanoa left the board. But the change was not filed with the provincial societies registry until March 26, 2026, when the foundation also disclosed it held a Nov. 1, 2025 annual general meeting.

On that 2025 filing are names of four directors: Gurcharn Singh Charlie Dosanjh (deputy sheriff with B.C. Sheriff Service), Angela Haer (Vancouver Park Board commissioner), Harpal Sandhu (Air Canada Calgary lead station attendant) and Rana Saranjot Singh Sethi (digital creative agency operator).

None of the board members is accused of wrongdoing.

Haer announced on social media late Sept. 5 that she would finish her term on the Park Board, but not run for re-election on Oct. 17 with Mayor Ken Sim’s ABC Vancouver party. Her social media statement did not mention Kids Play. Haer did not respond to an interview request.

Who else?

The Kids Play website no longer shows the board roster. But a page archived on Sept. 3listed additional directors: B.C. Correctional Service officer Manraj Singh Johal and Bhupinder Hundal, the news director and station manager of Global BC.

A Sept. 8, 2025 filing shows Johal ceased to be a director on Nov. 1, 2023.

But Hundal’s name does not appear on Kids Play’s societies registry filings. It is understood he is no longer on the board.

Hundal told theBreaker that “it would be inappropriate for me to comment, one way or another.”

Hundal emphasized the Global commitment to “objectively and fairly” cover stories, regardless of the individual or organization involved.

Global has prominently featured the Dosanjh story since it broke on Sept. 3, including video of Vancouver Police officers executing a search warrant and carrying boxes of seized documents out of the Kids Play Surrey office.

The charity’s name appears on the door with an RCMP-approved fingerprinting company and immigration consultant.

Fundraising and spending

According to the Canada Revenue Agency, Kids Play is “a non-profit organization committed towards keeping kids away from the lifestyle of drugs, gangs and violence, by reinforcing a sense of belonging and self-worth in vulnerable youth.”

Last year, it reported $451,116 in revenue, including $391,588 in receipted donations and $10,908 government funding in 2024-2025, and spent $421,189, including $386,389 on charitable programs.
